A service to mark Armistice Day and to pay tribute to all those who lost their lives in conflict is being held at Leicestershire County Council’s HQ, County Hall, on Monday, 11 November.
The short service will take place at the Stand Easy memorial, beginning at 10.40am, and will incorporate the laying of wreaths and a two-minute silence at 11am.
Dignitaries taking part in the service include the Lord-Lieutenant of Leicestershire Mike Kapur OBE CStJ, Leicestershire County Council Chairman Councillor Joe Orson, Acting Leader Councillor Deborah Taylor and Armed Forces Champion Councillor Pam Posnett.
They will be joined by representatives of the Royal British Legion, serving members of the armed forces and cadets, as well as pupils from the Hall Primary School in Glenfield. The service will be led by Rev Dr Edward Bampton, Rector of the Benefice of Groby and Ratby, and Area Dean of Sparkenhoe East.
It is a great honour to lead this year’s Armistice service. This occasion holds deep significance, as we come together to remember and pay tribute to those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom.
It is a time to remember the sacrifices made by millions of soldiers and civilians during times of conflict. We will honour their memory with gratitude and continue to uphold the ideals they fought for.
I hope as many people who are able to will join me in commemorating Armistice.
Councillor Joe Orson, Chairman of Leicestershire County Council
