About the Lord-Lieutenant

The Lord-Lieutenant is the King’s representative in Leicester and Leicestershire.

The current Lord-Lieutenant is Michael Kapur OBE CStJ. Deputy Lieutenants and a Vice Lord-Lieutenant are also appointed to assist.

The role of the Lord-Lieutenant and the Lieutenancy in Leicester and Leicestershire

The Lord-Lieutenant is non-political and promotes working together across voluntary services, business and cultural life.

The main duties of the Lieutenancy are to:

  • Arrange visits of Members of the Royal Family and escort Royal visitors
  • Present medals and awards on behalf of His Majesty
  • Participate in civic, voluntary and social activity
  • Liaise with local units of the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army, Royal Air Force and their associated Cadet Forces

Inviting the Lord-Lieutenant to your event

The Lord-Lieutenant attends many social occasions in support of the local community, civic, business, and cultural life of the county and city. If the Lord-Lieutenant is unable to attend an event, he may wish to be represented by his Vice Lord-Lieutenant or one of his Deputy Lieutenants.
