Victory in Europe Day marked the end of World War II in Europe, after six years of fighting.

There will be celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day with events around the UK on Thursday 8 May 2025, as well as community events such as street parties on Monday 5 May 2025.

Cathedral Service

The focus for Leicester and Leicestershire's commemoration of this significant anniversary will be an evensong service at Leicester Cathedral on Thursday 8 May 2025 at 5.30 pm, attended by the Lord-Lieutenant, the Lord Mayor, the Chairman of the County Council, and other civic dignitaries.

This service is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.

For those representing uniformed services and organisations, wearing uniform is encouraged and insignia, decorations and medals may be worn.

Beacon Lighting

Beacons will be lit across the Country on Thursday 8 May 2025 at 9.30 pm to celebrate VE Day and to remember the sacrifices of those who fought during World War II.

Smaller venues are also invited to light Lamp Lights of Peace at the same time.

More information regarding Beacon Lightings and the Lamp Lights of Peace can be found online at Beacons (VE 80).
